Is It Worth It? | Sephora Play! February 2018 Value Analysis

Just a Canadian girl trying to get her hands on this US only subscription box sooooo HERE IT IS.  Sephora Play! subscription box is supposed to be one of the best beauty boxes out there, so of course I have a subscription! It is also supposed to have the best variety of products and be one of the best bang-for-your-buck beauty boxes. Let’s see how much my February box is worth! The theme this month was “Feel the Love” and my box is number is 136.

The first thing I always want to know about my box is WHAT’S THE RETAIL VALUE?! Each month’s box is $10 USD so all the math I have done is based on US retail prices.

Last month's box:

Sephora Play! December/January

DEFINITIONS: 🤓

Full size: Whatever is on Sephora’s website

Retail value: The $ value based on full size pricing

Price paid: How much the individual item contributes to the set’s price

All prices are in USD and measurements are metric. I include the “bonus” item as part of the $10.

February 2018 Box #136

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold

Full size: $29 for 1.64g

Retail value: $17.68 for 1g

Price paid: $2.85

Thoughts:

Love that they included such a versatile color. Never used this product before and it’s been included in Play boxes before, but I’ve never received it. Glad that my day has come at last!

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Let’s Go Crazy

Full size: $27 for 2.4g

Retail value: $20.25 for 1.8g

Price paid: $3.27

Thoughts:

Really glad they included a lip product that’s not red! This is a bright pink and I don’t have anything like it in my collection. This is certainly a more adventurous color, but I’ll happily take any deluxe samples from Nars.

Sephora Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic

Full size: $12.50 for 2.83g

Retail value: $4.41 for 1g

Price paid: $0.71

Thoughts:

As I write this this lipstick is on sale for $7, but I’m using the full retail price for my calculation. I’m glad that this is a more sheer lipstick because the one-swipe lipsticks in colors this dark are what I call “expert level” lipsticks and I tend to give them away. A lot of people have received this product broken, so I’m hoping that mine is safe and sound…

Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel

Full size: $48 for 100ml

Retail value: $7.20 for 15ml

Price paid: $1.16

Thoughts:

Sephora Play has gotten me really into Peter Thomas Roth, and I am still loving the 24K Prism Cream from December. This product kind of reminds me of Boscia’s peeling gel and it’s just not for me. I don’t love the user experience of the product. If this PTR peeling gel changes my mind about this kind of product, I will leave an update.

Belief Moisturizing Eye Bomb

Full size: $48 for 25ml

Retail value: $9.60 for 5ml

Price paid: $1.55

Thoughts:

I love a good eye cream, but I’ve tried so many it’s hard to impress me. We shall see about this one. I’ve never tried anything from Belief before.

Atelier Cologne Vanille

Full size: $140 for 100ml

Retail value: $2.80 for 2ml

Price paid: $0.45

Thoughts:

Love this brand and their scents. I’m allergic to perfumes, so I’ll add this to my collection of perfume samples where it can sit, look pretty, and collect dust.

Value of this box: $61.94

I love looking up all the box variations on MySubscriptionAddiction and if I was going to pick any box from this month’s line up I would have picked this one. Good job Play team!
