IS IT WORTH IT? | Sephora Favorites Clean Beauty 2018

I have been trying to switch to cleaner and greener products for a while, so like, HOW COULD I RESIST THIS SET. It launched on the US site first and then on the Canadian site a couple days later. The Canadian set is missing three items that are included in the US version. Why? I haven’t a clue – they are all products that are sold in Canadian Sephoras. They are the Tatcha Deep Cleanse, Kora Organics Noni Glow Face Oil, and Boscia MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil.

I was so tempted to get the US version this time, but those three items were $16 CAD more ($44 USD = $56 CAD) and it wasn’t worth it to me. Especially since there’s a promotion for free trial sized new clean beauty products. I got Youth to the People’s Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream and Tata Harper’s Resurfacing Serum, which are two products I’m likely to use and finish up compared to the facial oil and cleansing oil. Regardless, I still have more, new stuff.

So let’s get into my favorite past-time! Breaking down Sephora’s marketing team’s terrible math! What I really like about this set though is the bag. I think it will really soften up with use and be great for toting around all my hippie doodads when I travel.

The stated value for the Canadian set for the 8 items is $129, while the US’s version with 11 items is stated at $153.

Today I’m going to be using CAD for analysis.

SEPHORA FAVORITES: THE ULTIMATE TRAVEL BAG $42 CAD // $44 USD

Kopari Coconut Melt 75ml:

I’m probably the least excited about this item. Isn’t this something you use to cook with…? Currently, the smell is making my mouth water and I don’t even like the taste of coconut. 1000% Bloo is going to try to eat this. Also, this jar is poorly designed. I just don’t get it. The mouth is too small in proportion to the rest of it. Sigh.

Full size: $20 for this travel size, $50 for 200mL

Retail value: $18.75

Price paid: $9.46

Biossance Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer 10mL:

Full size: $64 for 50mL

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Depp Conditioning Mask 29mL:

Grr, I have so many samples of this stuff, I really didn’t need another tube. It works, but there’s no novelty or discovery factor for me.

Full size: $12 for this travel size, $149.50 for 946mL

Retail value: $4.58

Price paid: $2.31

Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm 12mL:

This stuff lasts me forever because I only use it for eye makeup. I like how I can scoop it with my fingers and not involve any cotton pads.

Full size: $44 for 90mL

Retail value: $5.87

Price paid: $2.96

Herbivore Pink Cloud 7.5mL:

Full size: $60 for 50mL

Youth to the People Superfood Firm and Brighten Serum 8mL:

Verdict: Worth It (b/c I love Clean Beauty), but Sephora gets an F for their math skillz

Stated value: $129

Actual value: $83.23

I really don’t know how they did their math this time around. Even with the prices of the travel sizes, it doesn’t make up for nearly $50 worth of discrepancies…

My YTTP Adoptogen’s trial size retail value is approximately $10 and the Tata Harper serum has a retail value of $36.67. With these two bonuses I feel less like I missed out on the three items missing from the US version, but I still wish we weren’t short changed. We already miss out on so many good Sephora Favorites kits.
